How much to spend on engagement rings is question that many men ask themselves. My father always says that there is no silly question, but only silly answer, therefore I believe that first of all, this is very personal question and answering how much to spend on engagement rings can be little bit complicated.
You ask me why? Well, first of all, many men don’t know should they buy diamond engagement ring or not. Here in Europe for example, many people buy engagement rings not with diamond but with big pearl or big Swarovski crystal and many other smaller pearls or crystals set around the big center stone. Therefore, your best diamond rings can be all different.
So how can one know how much to spend on engagement rings when there are so many different types of rings made from different metal with different stone. It is all up to the individual taste of the buyer, but me as a woman I strongly believe that diamond engagement rings are the best and every girl no matter what she says, deep down she wants diamond ring from her loved one. So why not to buy her the best diamond rings?!
Here we say – “Buy ring with diamond since it is the strongest stone, so your love will be also forever strong”. So my choice is to go for diamond engagement ring.
Now to get back to my question on how much to spend on engagement rings. Well, I think it totally depends on the person and how much he earns. Should it be two or three monthly salaries or only one, since now it is global crisis and we shouldn’t spend so much money on luxury products? But then again, it is engagement ring and you will be giving to your loved one and you want to spend the rest of your life with her so you want to make her happy and you don’t want to look very cheap, so the answer on how much to spend on engagement rings will be not too little for sure. She will never say to you why you bought here cheap ring, but I believe that this thought at least one time will come to her mind.
So my advice is to go with price range that you can afford and you feel comfortable with it. Like general rule on how much to spend on engagement rings in many cases is 2 or 2,5 monthly salaries. You don’t need to pay an arm and leg for the engagement ring, therefore generally you should spend amount of around 2 to 4 your salaries, but then again - only you know how much to spend on engagement rings and how much you can afford.
If you can’t afford more, then go with price of your 1 salary and don't feel ashamed about it. I know that it's crisis and many say we should save and we shouldn’t spend a lot of money on diamond jewelry because we don’t know what will happen tomorrow. But still here we are talking about your girl’s diamond engagement ring and you don't want to save money on your future wife. Plus every girl wants diamonds secretly or not, so my advice is to start saving little money before you go and purchase diamonds.
In case you can afford more, my suggestion is still not to go over 5 or 6 salaries, because even with keeping smaller budget of 2-4 salaries, you can find very beautiful diamond engagement rings and I believe you don’t need to exaggerate on how much you spend on engagement rings. If you want to lavish your loved one with expensive presents, you can always buy her more diamond presents later on, if you are this big spender type.
